BJP provide the Facilities to Scheduled Castes in Karnataka

Udupi March 2: MLA K. Raghupati Bhat said on Saturday that the St. Mary’s Island, near Udupi, would be developed under public-private participation.
He was speaking after performing the earth breaking ceremony for the concreting of the Kavi Muddana Road and distributing various facilities to beneficiaries belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at a function organised by the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) here. The road would be concreted at a cost of Rs. 80 lakh.
Mr. Bhat said that Rs. 10 crore had been set aside by the Government for the development of St. Mary’s Island. The State Government was committed to providing better infrastructure in urban areas. It had provided a special grant of Rs. 15 crore each for the development of city municipal councils in district headquarters in its budget for 2009-10. Development projects worth Rs. 30 crore would be taken up in these cities in next two years. “This will help in taking up major developmental works in Udupi,” he said.
The Government had granted Rs. 5 crore and Rs. 2 crore each to taluk headquarters and small towns having town municipal councils and town panchayats, respectively, in its budget. The development of urban areas would be done through the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), he said. While the Congress party was merely showing lip sympathy for weaker sections such as the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the BJP was providing facilities for them, Mr. Bhat said.
